About MCon Inc.

MCon Inc. (short for “Machine Consciousness”) was founded in 1992 by mathematician, engineer and former Xircom cofounder David B. Rosen (Xircom was acquired by Intel in March of 2001); and retired TRW space physicist and USC professor Dr. Alan Rosen. The primary business areas of MCon Inc. is in publishing and licensing. The licensing business, based on MCon’s patents and proprietary technologies, represents a system engineering project of immense proportions, the reverse engineering of the physical, biomedical, and neurological operation of the human body and brain. Governments, corporate institutions and educational foundations are invited to join MCon Inc. in this undertaking. The MCon publishing division publishes 2 journals: Machine Consciousness Technical Journal (MCTJ) devoted to reverse engineering the human body and brain. And Machine Consciousness Philosophical Journal (MCPJ) devoted to reverse engineering the “programming” of the human brain. Subscriptions to the 2 journals are now being taken. Preprints of articles to be published are now available at www.mcon.org. The publishing division is operated by the former CEO of L3i Incorporated, Yosef P. Rosen. (L3i) developed and licensed proprietary technologies to some of the largest entities in the world including the U.S. Department of Defense, General Dynamics, Microsoft, Novartis and the University of California Los Angeles.)

MCon Inc. consists of 2 divisions:
MCon Publishing Division and MCon R&D Licensing Division.

Mission

The MCon goal is to encourage the study, design, development, and manufacture of RRC- brain controlled, humanoid robotic machines. Our mission is to disseminate information and humanoid robotic technology that will lead to historical characterization of the 21st century as the age of intelligent humanoid-robots. The conscious intelligent man-friendly robots will revolutionize the field of cognition and science and potentially impact the conduct of government, business, and home life.

History

Machine Consciousness Inc. was founded in 1992 by father-son duo, Dr. Alan Rosen and David B. Rosen, and incorporated in 1994 (at the Maui Research & Technology Center) as an R&D company with the goal of discovering the design of the Neuronal Correlate of Consciousness (NCC)-circuit, and thereby develop an operational definition of consciousness. The MCon approach to research, development and publications is characterized by rigorous reverse engineering of the Darwinian evolutionary adaptation of the biological brain.

In 1998 MCon scientists and engineers developed a reverse engineered set of NCC-circuits that emulated the connectivity and operation of the human brain, and developed a theory of consciousness. The initial R&D culminated in patents for a RRC- “conscious” brain-like controller that reverse engineered the function of the biological brain. The MCon Publication Division disseminates information relating to MCon research and development in the form of preprints and 2 journals, Machine Consciousness Technical Journal and Philosophical Journal (MCTJ & MCPJ). The R&D Licensing Division product consists of licensing and consulting support for the development of MCon's proprietary intellectual property.

System Engineered Hierarchy

A Revolutionary development in the field of robotics (RRC- Patent Granted 4/6/2003) that may usher in the 21st century as the age of robotics (friendly robots working with humans). In 2008 MCon Inc will cosponsor an android engineering conference/webinar on the design development and manufacturing of intelligent robots - a revolutionary approach for multitasking robotic surveillance, exploration, and communication for military and civilian use.

The Android Engineering Webinar Conference is slated to take place in Mid 2008 <find out more>

Theories of Consciousness, Emotions, and cognition

The theories, publications and presentations of MCon Inc. form a basic foundation for future developments in the field of Robotic neurobiology and humanoid robotic systems engineering. The basic assumption underlying all the MCon discoveries and innovations is that the human brain and the consciousness and emotional characteristics associated with it, is an organic Darwinian adaptation, genetically designed with consciousness and emotional drives so as to statistically enhance the survival of the human specie in its environmental niche. MCon’s controversial theories are outlined in 4 publications available for viewing at the MCon Inc web site:

  • A video-taped invited presentation: “The Turing Machine Re-visited-The design of a conscious-emotional machine” to the IEEE-RCIIC Chapter of the Computational Intelligence Society. Presented July 8, 2007 at Northrup Grumann Inc. May be viewed at  http://www.MCon.org/media/ieee_rcicc0607.mov
  • “An Emotional Robotic Brain and How it works” Published by the editors of the MCon Journal, may be viewed at http://mcon.org/howbrain.html
  • “Darwinian Consciousness and How it Works” Published by the editors of the MCon Journal, may be viewed at http://mcon.org/wic.html
  • The R&D licensing division of MCon Inc proposes a gigantic systems engineering project-a national initiative- to study “is there an engineering alternative to biological-human cloning? See: Is there an alternative to human cloning

MCon Products

In addition to robotic developments and licensing the primary business of MCon is in the subscription and sale of journals and preprints. MCon Inc. is now disseminating pre-prints and accepting subscriptions to the MCTJ and MCPJ journals that will be issued in 2008.

The R&D-licensing Division will also begin operation in 2008. The R&D-Licensing division shall conduct conceptual design studies and license MCon's patented technology for the design and fabrication of conscious, volitional, emotional, humanoid robots that can feel, see, hear, and talk.

MCon Personnel

Dr. Alan Rosen is a physicist, cognitive scientist, and system engineer. He has over 35 years of experience in research and development and large scale system engineering and management. A pioneer in magnetospheric physics, magneto-cardiography, and magneto-encephlography, he has a PhD in Nuclear Physics, was a professor in Physics, Mathematics, and Space Physics at USC and UCLA, and is the coauthor of 4 books and over 60 technical publications. Until 1992 he served at TRW, as advanced system manager of the Science and Application Spacecraft business area, as Technical and Managing Laboratory Director of the Space Sciences Laboratory, and as Principal Investigator for NASA and the NIH. In 1992 he was the cofounder of Machine Consciousness Inc. (at that time known as RoTech)

David Rosen is a mathematician and computer scientist. He is a cofounder of Xirrus Inc. and has over twenty years experience in embedded computer system design, including hardware and firmware design, low level and application level programming, and a solid background in mathematics. He worked for Pertron Inc and is a cofounder of Xircom Inc.  At Pertron he obtained several patents on various robotic designs and devices. David is cofounder of MCon Inc, and chief “hands on” patent designer and engineer.
